3 Questions to Ask Before Starting an Ebay Business

Financial times being what they are, many people have found themselves without a job or making less income than they had hoped. Couple this with the fact that the price of everything has been going up and up and it’s a very painful financial situation for many to be in.

This is a time of transition for many. They may have lost their job or just need to make more money to keep things running as they have in the past. In this situation many decide it may be time to start the business they have been thinking of as a way to bring in more income.

If it is a retail business you are thinking of, eBay is a great place to begin it. Unlike opening a storefront, eBay is an online venue where you can sell your items, interact with your customers and ship their purchases without a lot of overhead.

Before you begin your eBay business, you need to answer a few questions about your business plan:

What’s for Sale?

Do you know what you will be selling? Product selection is very important. You want to choose something that you like and know about so you can not only have it for sale but also be able to offer information to consumers that will make them want to buy it. Also, if you like what you are selling you will enjoy your job more.

Where Will You Get Your Supplies?

You will need inventory if you want to start a business. Do you know where you are going to get that inventory? Generally there are a couple of options-

Wholesale

Wholesale items are those that you get right from the manufacturer or one of their distributors. These are items that you will be purchasing in bulk to turn around and sell individually. You will also be able to get these items at wholesale prices, which are often half of the retail price.

Liquidation

The other option is liquidation goods. These are items that have been on closeout or were returned to a department store and they decide to move in large lots to some other place that can sell them.

What Shipping Options Do You Have In Place?

Once you start selling on eBay you are going to need to be able to ship the items that are purchased out to your customers. Many people use Paypal.com as a way to do this as they are linked directly to eBay and you can not only get your payments through them, but also turn around and print shipping labels and postage.
